I bought the magazine because it has some beautiful cable patterns in it and I particularly like the hat and mittens. I have made the hat, twice, in a berry red. I decided I wanted to make a cardigan and looked through all my magazines and I liked the look of the one in the top left corner. I was going to make it in just one plain colour, the sage green. |
The following day, I tried again, after spending about an hour working out numbers and trying to figure out the correct pattern to get the right stitch count on all the rows. I ended up bodging the 3rd and 4th increase rows, undoing them 3 times and trying again, and still it would not work.
I spent a few minutes looking for pattern corrections online but found only a minor change to a different pattern in that issue of the magazine.
I seriously lost my cool, frogged it yet again and threw my hook down in disgust. I had never failed to figure out the pattern before but no matter which way I tried, it just did not work. I finally gave up on it at about midnight and decided to design my own cardigan.
I then spent an hour going through Simply Crochet's facebook page until I found a relevant post. It was out in 2019 so there was a lot of scrolling going on. I found a post and asked them if there were any corrections to the pattern in my size, as I just could not make it work. I am awaiting a reply as I write this but I don't think there will be one.
I have bought the magazine a few times because I liked the look of some of the sweaters and jumpers but now I am reluctant to try to make them. Has this pattern been tested in all the sizes? I don't think it was. That is the whole point of testing a pattern, to make sure it works, in all sizes and to iron out anomalies, make sure it is correct before publishing it.
