Things were also complicated by the fact that one of the cats, Marmalade had an ear infection and needed an antibiotic shot on the Saturday before my son got ill. I had to ring and ask a friend to go to the A & E department to stay with my son, while I nipped home and gave them their tea and did an ear wash on Marmalade's ear. She was finally eating again and is now meowing at me for her supper. She's been singing the song of her people for her supper.
Anyway, that meant that I couldn't do much Christmas shopping in that week. I had already bought most of the Christmas dinner although we didn't actually get to make and eat until the Thursday after Christmas Day because my son was not well enough to eat a full roast dinner. We had sausage and mash and veggies after watching the newest and most ridiculous Fast and Furious movie and my son couldn't manage to eat all of it.
On the Thursday, I did a gammon joint in pineapple juice in the slow cooker, roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots in the oven and sweetcorn and broccoli, stuffing and gravy. we were stuffed. The day after I did gammon burgers and on New Years Day a gammon and stuffing pie.
I got my son some clothes and a game for his switch console.
He got me some slippers, (always a winner) and a craft book, Knit Your Socks on Straight by Alice Curtis. Before Christmas and everything, I had been attempting to knit a sock using the magic loop method on a circular needle but I screwed up the heel and abandoned it. I had knitted a pair of socks on straight needles earlier in the year and found that quite easy. I used some vintage 100% wool I had in my stash, in an attempt to keep my feet warm, and liked the socks, so I'm hoping I can make a couple of pairs from this book. I'll also make some for my son. You can't beat a good pair of warm socks.
We stayed at home for New Years Eve. I was crocheting a cushion cover. It was a good job we did stay home. Someone set off a very loud boom firework that shook the house and frightened Merlin, who decided he needed to shove his face in my neck and be cuddled. He was ok at midnight though! That one was just too loud and near and made me jump as well.
Anyway, that's the Christmas and New Year update. Hopefully, things will improve and we can get better and I can get back to learning to knit socks!
