The next blanket I made was for her brother, which is in blue, red and white corner to corner stripes with a treble crochet border and a small pom pom edging.
It has been very hot here and I don't really want to crochet a blanket in this heat. I have been reading a lot instead. I have recently finished 'Empty Cradles' by Margaret Humphreys. It is about the child migrants in Australia. These children were shipped off to Australia as children up to the end of the 1960's, after being told their parents had died or had given them up for adoptions, while the parents were told their children were adopted in the UK. The parents and children were told the wrong names and birth dates and I can't help but feel these were deliberately changed to conceal the fact they had been lied to. Anyway, there are happy and sad parts to the story and you should read the book. There was also a film made of the book called 'Oranges and Sunshine' which is worth a watch. I have been looking at a great great uncle in my family tree as he made several trips to Australia and New Zealand before and after World War 2 and I hope he was not someone who organised these migrations but it's proving challenging to confirm or deny.
Anyway, that's it for now. I'll hopefully have some better updates soon.
