Anyway, this weekend, I decided to try again, doing a cowl on circular needles, so all I had to think about was the knit stitches and this definitely helped make sure they were all in the right place. I also used a different technique so the different colours wouldn't tangle quite so much.
I did make some mistakes when floating the grey but I corrected them.
I actually half made it and then ripped it out because I wanted to do the sheep in a fluffy yarn but they were tough to knit, didn't slip off the needles and I also managed to drop a few and couldn't figure out through the fluff where to pick them up again. I had the grey yarn in my stash, which was good as it was about 8.30p.m. on Sunday evening that I decided to start it again and all the shops were shut. All the yarns came from my stash so no new yarns were bought for this project.
I really want to do another fair isle design but can't find one I like. I like the idea of using a solid main colour and a colour changing variegated yarn for the design to make it pop. I also want a cat design to knit.
I had started to do it as a Tunisian crochet, using the knit stitch, but it took forever and used up a lot of yarn. This sheep cowl is a free pattern and you can get it here I'll Pack a Cowl for Rhinebeck
You can also find a matching hat, mittens too.
I have seen Drops do a cardigan and jumper with a similar design as free patterns, which I'll also be downloading. I have enough yarn to do a cardigan. These are in adults and children sizes.
