I was knitting, for the first time using 4 ply yarn, and it seemed to take forever to make any progress. I found the yarn in a charity shop and ended up going back for the last ball that I left behind, thinking I had enough. I looked at the pattern notes and the ball label and the yardage wouldn't have been enough.
I tried to put the stitches back on the needles but managed to drop a few at the same time, so on the next row, I tried to correct them again but just ended up with holes and gaps where there shouldn't be holes and gaps. I carried on regardless but I was not happy with myself and my work and put it away. There was no salvaging of the socks.
I did learn quite a lot from it, so when I go back to them, I'll know what mistakes to avoid. I just need to have a bit more patience with myself and enjoy the long process of knitting 4 ply socks.
I do recommend this book for sock knitting newbies. It explains why the designer has chosen these parts of the pattern and has clear photos and instructions. I just wish there were more sock patterns using DK and aran yarns.
I have since started designing my own pair of socks, using the cheap acrylic yarn from the original sock kit. Once I'm happy with them, I'll test the pattern with the Cascade 220 in the top photo and hopefully publish the pattern.
