I have finished the body of this vintage pattern I am making. The pattern is for 4 ply yarn but I didn't have any of that and I don;t like working with it anyway. I have made it in double knit yarn, both from Home Bargains. I already had the crochet hooks. I don't know where I had the pattern from. I found it in a bag of crochet magazines in my bedroom. I will be doing the sleeves this evening while I watch the Great British Sewing Bee

Hello Everyone, I finally finished it last night, well, early hours of the morning. It is so warm and cosy! The pattern is the Orlaith Robe Sweater in the Celtic Cable Crochet book by Bonnie Barker. I was having a few problems with the shaping of the fronts and searched online for help. I finally found the tutorials on YouTube and followed a link to the corrections page. I found this very useful and stopped me feeling frustrated and annoyed. Once I had them, I just whizzed through it. The sleeves were really quick to do. I had bought 4 big balls of aran from Aldi ages ago, intending to make a crochet cable blanket but decided to make this instead. I love the colour and buttons. The Cables were really easy to do and once you got into a rhythm, quick.
I bought the buttons from the Create & Craft show in Manchester, back when we were allowed out to socialise. I didn't need them and hadn't started the cardigan then. I just bought them because I liked them! I started the cardigan in the end of 2019 and put it away after doing the back and the start of one side. Stupidly, I didn't write any notes of what size I was doing and what hook I was using, and then when I picked it up at the start of this year, I was a bit confused. It doesn't take much to confuse me at the best of times. Now I have the journal, I am keeping better notes and records of my makes. It has snowed and the air is cold here, so I'm going to wear it this evening to type on my computer and do this blog. It's like wearing a blanket. I also started the Tunisian Crochet fair isle cowl I wanted to try. I am finding it takes ages to do the forward pass, especially as I'm changing colours and need to keep track of what I'm doing. It is working from a chart but I find I'm losing track of what colour comes next so I might just input it into a spreadsheet so I can follow it easier. The pattern is in a book, which is on my Kindle Fire, and I'll just use the spreadsheet on there. Well, that's it for today. I am completely shattered and hungry, so I'm going to go make my dinner and a cup of tea! Melanie You can buy the book here, Celtic Cable Crochet by Bonnie Barker The corrections page is here |
