Sewing Courses
I am currently in the process to find a new room I can hire (that wont cost a fortune) for the Beginners Sewing Course. I have just been told that the cost of the room I was using has gone up, and although its less than other rooms I have looked at, it would mean that I will have to increase the cost of the course to cover the cost of renting the room.
I have a business plan written and I am currently looking for somewhere to open a Sewing Studio so that you can all come and learn to sew with me! There will be a range of sewing courses and workshops that will change throughout the year. Please see the Market Research page. The studio will also be used for sewing bee, crochet club and knit and natter groups. I'm also currently looking for a small business grant to help me get the rent and bills covered for the first 6 months.

Beginners Sewing Course
The Beginners Sewing course is designed to give you more confidence using your sewing machine and to learn some basic hand stitches for quick sewing. Over the course of six weeks, you will learn how to use your shiny sewing machine to make a pair of pillowcases, a pin cushion, a sofa cushion, an apron, a pair of lounge pants and a tote bag. Each make requires you to learn new sewing skills that can be used on other makes as you progress through the course and onto the 'Make a Repro Vintage Dress' Course. There will also be some hand sewing each week so you will need some basic sewing equipment.
You will be given detailed written and illustrated instructions each week for your makes and I will guide you as you learn. The ladies I have taught so far have enjoyed the course, have made new friends and learnt a valuable new skill that can be used forever. Once you learn to sew, you can go on to repair and make your own clothes and soft furnishings.
You will need some basic equipment to do the Beginners Sewing course such as:
You will be given a list of fabric requirements before the start of the course so you can buy what you need to make each item. If you are unsure about any fabric, ask about it, go to a fabric shop and touch the fabrics. There is no point in making something to wear if you don't like the fabric! Most fabric shops are very helpful and will guide you through the fabric buying process too.
The cost of the Beginners Sewing course is £75 for the whole 6 weeks and will include 12-13 hours of tuition and written material. I will need a minimum of 4 people to run the Beginners Sewing course at the current location, so if you know of any friends who would like to do the course too, it would be the more the merrier!
Places are limited on the course so please send me an email if you would like to book a place on the course. A non - refundable deposit of £10 is payable upon booking a place on the course to guarantee your spot.
