Last night was the first night of 2016's Sewing Bee. There are six of us who attend regularly and we share the room with a lace makers group. In the photo above are Norma and Josie who have been sewing for several years and are a font of knowledge.
Also in the our group are Barbara and Jean, who were doing knitting and repairing a pair of boot toppers!
Barbara usually has some sewing going on every week so it was unusual for her to be knitting. Jean brings her mum, June, who gives advice on sewing as she used to make all of her own clothes for herself and her children, as well as soft furnishings.
Last night, Josie was attaching a collar to her blouse, Jean was fixing a pair of fluffy boot toppers, Barbara was knitting and I was doing some cross stitch. We sometimes take our sewing machines to make things as there are plugs to use. We also take advantage of the big tables to cut out fabric for whatever we are making as it is so much easier than putting it on the floor at home!
We always stop for tea and homemade cake and a chat. Yesterday Barbara made some yummy chocolate cakes with melty Rolo's hidden inside and mini mince pies.
We are a happy group, (who shares the cost of the room with a lace makers club), ranging in age from 30's to 80's and we all have a variety of abilities. We all share a hobby for sewing and making things. If you would like to join us, we meet at Prestbury Methodist Church Hall on Thursday evenings, 7-9pm. Sewing Bee is open to everyone, whether you are new to sewing or accomplished, young or old and male or female. You are very welcome to join us and we look forward to seeing you there!
